Help support Women's racing.

I have travelled to the Formula Youth World Championships for the past two years, first of all in Largs, Scotland and secondly in Lake Garda, Italy. Both events I enjoyed immensely, with good winds, good racing and good company, they couldn't have been much better. Despite these events being well-organised and brilliant events for youths to take part in, the number of female competitors has failed to reach the required number for an official world title to be awarded for the last couple of years. I know there are youth (to be a youth you must be under 20 at the end of the year) girls out there, both ones that have taken part in other international competitions, eg Formula Experience worlds, North Sea Cups, and PWA’s, as well as ones that have not yet competed internationally who would really enjoy the experience of racing at the youth world championships. This year I unfortunately may not be able to attend the event because of an injury, but I urge the rest of you to try and get there so we can get the number of youth girls up again, and show that we should not be forgotten about.

The event is from the 15th to the 19th of September, and will be held in Dranske, on the Isle of Rugen,

Diva Camp 2003

The Neil Pryde/Starboard Women's International Formula Windsurfing Camp Following last years success, we are happy to invite all women who whish to improve their Formula Windsurfing skills to join the Diva camp at Lake Garda, Italy. Anyone can join - no previous racing experience is needed!

Last year 14 women from 8 different countries joined the camp to improve their skills, tune their equipment and share experiences. All levels were present - from first-timers on Formula boards to the best girls in the world. There was also plenty of time for everybody to get to know each other better, both during the camp and afterwards during the Euro-cup, in which most of the girls decided to participate.

The sailing club in Malcesine provided the perfect setting for the camp with their helpful and friendly staff, and they are now looking forward to host this year's camp.

The 4-day long camp will be coached by Brian Rogild (Starboard) and Nikolaj Kruppa (Neil Pryde). At the camp you can improve your technique, board speed, tactics, starts and much more. Participation fee is 100 euro, which covers training, storage of equipment and accommodation.

The camp takes place just before this years first Women's FW Euro-cup at Lake Garda, Malcesine (26/4-30/4). Lake Garda is the number one European Formula Windsurfing test center. Blessed with stabile wind conditions and surrounded by mountains it is also one of the most beautiful places to train and surely worth a visit.

The number of entries is limited to 25 women maximum.

Last year's introduction of seven scheduled events, as well as the "silver fleet" concept in the women's fleet proved to be a step in the right direction, bringing in more female competitors to the sport. The 2002 Women Cup ranking counted a total of 31 women participating at various events, and the level of competition constantly improved throughout the season, often making the silver fleet concept only a back-up option. Most importantly, last year's racing changed the spirit and attitude of most female competitors and gained much more interest of media worldwide.

Again, this year's edition covers seven events, but this time we will include a non-European based event. We are going to Canada in July aiming at stimulating Women's windsurfing growth on the other side of the Atlantic. It will be exciting to see new faces and see different perspective on formula racing. The goal for the coming years is to establish one American and one Asian women's event - and this way add to the global presence of women's formula racing.

Last year's edition was a very good experience and the outcome of the 2003 schedule is the result of many weeks of constructive discussions between the female sailors themselves, reflecting their opinions on organizations, weather conditions, etc. It all shaped the general view of the desires and requests of women's racing. Based on that, we hope this year's calendar will be well received and suitable to everyone interested in joining the Women Cup circuit.
