Starboard S-Type 137 Wood German Surf, June 2006 |
SENSATIONAL RESULTS IN PERFORMANCE AND ONE EXTRA POINT IN THE CATEGORY OF TOPSPEED
Translated by: Chris Pressler
The "S" stands for sporty, stiffy and super demanding.
The Surf tester rated the board as a "race machine for lightwind conditions", which testifies homage and respect in the same moment.
Fired with big sails the S-type board works great and feels super sporty already in light winds - and the feeling does not deceive.
With the big 48 cm long Drake Freeride fin, the board flies in front of the rest of the field - if you have the right windsurfing level. But take care, if a sudden strong gust arrives in the sail: A less experienced sailor could be pulled out of the straps. The long fin in the tail of the S-Type becomes a "sword of Damocles and because of the high speed it can be tricky to keep the board on the water.
The Surf Tip: for sails smaller than seven squaremeters you should budget a smaller fin.
This board fits perfect for a good freerider with racing ambitions. Besides the design of the board is quite convincing.
A good windsurfer can sail without maximized passive planning power. He just pumps twice and accelerates with the S-type. No other board of the testgroup can overtake the speedmachine. The topspeed of the Surftestriders can only be achieved by topsailors with experiences in racing. You are riding a wild Rodeo horse.
Using the board with inside positioned straps is a less good decision.
Surf-Tipp: A board for excellent freerider. A lightwindracer for sailsizes bigger than 7m2.
