Starboard ACID 73 German SURF (3/2006) test report |
Contrary to Naish or RRD the Acid begins only with a certain wave size to make real fun.
The more speed you have, the more controlled the turns get. This board is suited for big Aerials
and controlled off the Lips with much wind.Even the Fanatic board could need a bit of the down
the line control of the Acid.
Over the front foot precice turns with variety in radius can be made.
As well the turnability over the back leg has improved much compared to the last years model.
But: In comparison to the other tested boards the Acid needs more work for short turns in small waves.
But the acid can stand this more work and compared to the Quattro, it will turn easy.
Heavy riders will not notice this. They can sail without fear and can use their whole body .
As well they will be able to make the maximum amount of turns in small swell.
In flatwaterconditions the Acid canīt be beaten:
The board will plan soflty and even absorbs the hardest chop. A real strongwind freestyle board.
Conclusion:
The acid shows his quality in big waves and in high wind conditions.
Without working boringly the board goes like on rails exzellent and precisely over the front foot.
For making shorter turns the Acid needs more power in the legs.
Despite the outstanding potential in big waves the board is as well an excellent allrounder for heavy weighted sailors.
SURF TIPP: big waves, strong wind, flatwater
