Starboard EVO 74 wood German SURF 1-2 January/February 2006 |
At this yearīs test the EVO 74 arrived a bit changed, compared to last year model. And the new fin should give the successful shape an additional push. In the 2006 test the waveboards got splitted into two testgroups (in this issue the short, wide, in the upcoming issue the narrow boards). Thatīs an advantage for the EVO. The board has not to match against the classic stretched outlines, which are built to surf real big waves with top speed. The EVO also got the best result of all boards in the category "waveriding on the front leg/big waves" and advances to be one of the most versatile boards* in the test. Just heavy weights critisize the planning qualities. But sailors below 75 kg will like the extraordinary controllability, the soft planning position and the best Freemove- and Freestyle abilities - no other board can be carved with more control and in smaller turns in choppy water than the EVO. In the same radius and with the same high speed the Starboard massacres the waves. In small and medium sized waves you are able to go into more turns compared to a classic waveshape. As well you arrive with a lot of speed at the lip and can kick out aerials in another level (a bit higher), and the landing is easier, in the whitewater, too, because of the wider nose and the super stable planning position. The EVO is one of the most versatile board in the test group "new waveboards". If you are not a heavy weight sailor the board offers the opportunities to sail in waves and flat water without any compromises.
conclusion / result: A great shape and a leader of the new wave boards, was modified und got valorized with an excellent fin (better than before, last year). The EVO is a top-quality board, which can be used in a big range.
The new safety system in between the straps and the plugs fit better and are an excellent prevention against turning out of the perfect position.
