| STARBOARD'S RACING DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM HAS BEEN PUSHING THE LIMITS EVER SINCE THE VERY BEGINNING OF THE BRAND THROUGH MASSIVE RESEARCH EFFORTS IN ALL DIRECTIONS: AERODYNAMIC LIFT AND DRAG, ANGLES OF ATTACK, HYDRODYNAMIC LIFT AND DRAG, MECHANICAL LEVERAGE, PLANING SURFACE ASPECT RATIO, EFFECTS OF THE LEEWARD RAIL, OF TAIL CUT-AWAYS etc. |
At times, the test designs and concepts were so extreme that even the race team and test pilots were worried! They would then take these latest designs and win.
1995 - Sonic boards introduce the innovative Wood technology developed in New Caledonia, weighing in at a kilo less than the competition. The technology contributed to securing the Production World Speed Record, then winning the Production Boards Worlds in racing and slalom the following year.
1999 - Racing was revolutionized by the Formula, the first wide-style racing board that turned the racing World upside down with its superior upwind performance, wider wind range, and earlier planing.
2000 - In the Formula Worlds the Formula took all top 6 places - probably the most exciting design victory in the history of windsurfing!
2002 - The Hypersonic is introduced, sending shockwaves through the market and leading the way for a return to slalom and speed. Boards magazine, UK said, "No other board to date has revolutionized modern Windsurfing like the Hypersonic."
2005 - The S-Type and F-Type, Racing Development's more freeride-type boards, are introduced, offering racing edge thrills in a more maneuverable and comfortable package.
2006 - iSonics, cool as ice, replace the Hypersonics and larger Sonics with their own innovations --
low-rocker square noses that compensate through aerodynamic lift and side cuts in the tail. |
